At Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc., our key focus is the American customer. However, that focus often times extends beyond the scope of vehicle trends and necessities into community needs and environmental improvements.
Building cleaner vehicles isn’t the only way we work to make the world a better place. We take the same environmental passion we exhibit when designing and building our vehicles and apply it toward improving the communities in which we live, work and operate.
Quarterly Charity Selection
Every quarter, the HATCI team votes on a charitable organization to support financially. Team members then donate $1 every Friday of the quarter in support of the selected charity. Beginning in 2014, HATCI also matches the total amount raised per quarter and donates the funds.
Quarterly Charities Over The Years
As of 2010 HATCI began to annually dedicate one of its quarterly charitable giving opportunities to Habitat for Humanity Huron Valley. The Huron Valley chapter of Habitat for Humanity works to enrich Washtenaw County through a legacy of affordable home ownership for low-income families. Its impact is seen in revitalized neighborhoods, families achieving financial stability, and children who achieve more in school and in life. Families living in Habitat homes are positive contributors to our community, and supporting Habitat-Huron Valley is our way of emphasizing that.
In 2013, HATCI dedicated another annual quarter to Hyundai Hope on Wheels.
About Hope On Wheels
In 1998, Hyundai and a group of New England-area Hyundai dealers committed to the fight against pediatric cancer by launching a local initiative to support the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This effort grew to become Hyundai Hope On Wheels, a national independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to helping kids fight cancer. The program is supported by Hyundai Motor America and its more than 820 dealers nationwide. Every time a new Hyundai vehicle is sold in the U.S., Hyundai customers join Hyundai and its dealers in this cause.
Only 4% of all federal cancer research funding is designated for pediatric cancer. Hope on Wheels aims to fill this void by funding pediatric cancer and research. Its mission is to raise awareness for childhood cancer, donate life-saving research funds and celebrate the lives of children affected by this disease. Since inception, Hyundai Hope on Wheels has funded $100 million in pediatric cancer research, and it aims to continue to do so until the day when no child has to hear the words, “You have cancer.”
